Let's face it, cycling indoors during the colder months is not the most fun activity on earth.
On the other hand, it is the most effective method to obtain maximum fitness gains in a minimum amount of time. Indoor cycling is a physical activity that is gentle on the joints, cardio and muscular, and that can be done at home; what else beats this?
Here are my three pro tips if you want to invest in this activity and have lasting results.
Create the right indoor cycling environment.
One element that is too often overlooked is taking the time to create an enjoyable environment. You want to be comfortable, have space, have everything you need at your disposal, and be easy and inviting to set up every time.
Place your bike near a window if possible
Make sure it is well-ventilated.
Get a mat under the bike for sweat and vibration.
Place a fan in front of the bike.
Decorate the room with images or phrases that inspire you to push yourself.
Install a screen on the wall or get a stand for your computer or tablet.
Add coloured lights and speakers for a fun atmosphere.
Have a plan
If it's easy to get on the bike when motivation is at its highest, it's better to rely on discipline to reach our goals.
It starts with having a defined plan to follow. Avoid the Netflix scroll syndrome and always know in advance what you will do on the bike. It makes it easier to take action. You don't question yourselves, you just get on the bike and execute the plan.
Most often, you'll see that after a few minutes on the bike, you will already feel more motivated to train. Just start!
Follow the same schedule if possible or plan your sessions in the calendar each week.
Follow a training plan online or via a coach

Develop a network of people
Developing your network is the most significant factor in success when pursuing a goal. We are social animals. Whether it is friends or professionals, your network of people will help you persevere when motivation is less present.
Talk about your goal to someone close or a friend.
Join online communities to maintain inspiration (on Facebook the Women's Ride Academy or JzQC, for example)
Ride in a virtual group (on platforms such as Zwift and Rouvy, for example)
Hire a coach who will provide personalized follow-ups.
